What makes the chrome look work

Chrome is the cold, techy cousin of gold. It suits tech reviews, cars, gaming and anything 'premium'. The trick is the same: a hard dark line through the middle of each letter, where a real chrome surface reflects the horizon.

Because chrome is mostly white and grey, it disappears on pale backgrounds. Keep the dark outline, or put it on a dark or colourful photo.

Tips

  • Squared fonts (Russo One, Black Ops One, Bungee) look machined in chrome. Rounded ones look like toy lettering.
  • For a blue-steel look, change the bottom colour to a deeper blue. For dark chrome, swap the top colour to light grey.
  • Chrome pairs well with a single highlighted word in yellow or red: tap a word under the title.

In your language

The chrome effect is drawn from the letters' own shapes, so it works in every script on the site. Switch the language above, or type in your script, or start from a language page: Hindi, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bangla, Assamese, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Sinhala, Urdu, Arabic, Persian.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make chrome text?
Type your title above with the Chrome style on, pick a font and press PNG. The download is transparent, so you can place the chrome text on any thumbnail.
What's the difference between chrome and gold here?
Only the colours. Both use the Metal finish; gold uses pale yellow and amber, chrome uses white and steel blue. You can make any metal by changing the two colours.
