Is Cairo free for commercial use?

Yes. Cairo is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. That means you can:

  • use it in thumbnails, videos, logos, ads and printed products, including on monetized channels;
  • install it on as many devices as you like and share it with your editor or team;
  • embed it in documents, apps and websites.

The one thing you can't do is sell the font file on its own. If you share a modified version of the font, it has to stay under the same license. This is a plain-language summary, not legal advice: the license file in the download is what applies.
